WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Pumpkins (Any Shape/Size)
  • Acorns, Leaves & Sticks
  • Basket or Wooden Crate
  • Paint or Spray Paint (your choice of colours), Sharpie
  • Paint Brushes

TIPS

I used my “filler” items from nature, such as acorns and twigs- it adds texture and visual depth to the “basket”, but it was a fun activity to do with my little one and I didn’t have to spend money #bonus. I added fake flowers for an extra floral touch!

PREPARATION

IMG_8539.jpgClean pumpkins, acorns, twigs, leaves and any other items you will be spray painting or painting. Be sure to carve out enough space for spray painting and drying.

Follow the instructions on the spray canister (I use spray paint as it’s easier and faster and I’m clearly a graffiti artist at heart). But keep in mind if you use paint, white especially, you may need to apply more than 1 coat to ensure an even spread- avoiding the streaky look.

Ensure the pumpkins are properly dried before manipulating, we don‘t really want chipping or any smudges. Spray painting can leave a streaky, uneven lines where the paint ran, so be sure to spray evenly and if needed spray on a few times for an even coat.

Arrange the pumpkins and acorns in the basket/wooden crate.

Be creative and have fun playing with the different shapes and sizes, super fun, simple and gets you in touch with your creative side! PS: Anything which doesn’t involve me carving a pumpkin- I’m in!

OTHER “CARVELESS” PUMPKIN DECOR WE TRIED

I tried to play around with an “Aztec” pattern of sorts…didn’t come out as clean as I had planned, but I tried. I used a sharpie to create the lines and just continued random patterns.

As you can tell, I got a little excited with the gold!

I created a marbling effect, by dipping my brush in little bit of water when mixing the colours together.

Drizzled paint- super easy and you literally cannot mess up!

All in all, depending on the look and “theme” you want to execute, it’s a lot of fun playing around and mixing up the various mediums of decorating pumpkins and for me as along as I don’t have to deal with the mess of carving it, I’m 100% down.
