RnR Interview: Rae-Anne

Cue all the cliches and eye rolls, but you also need to STOP the press because let me introduce you to the BEST sister in the entire world…don’t come at me with anything else because I won’t listen! As it’s her birthday month, I figured it was high time we get to know some more about her, especially as she’s the “socially shy” one of our duo.😄 So let’s dive right in!!!

Light Conversations

Q: What is the tone/sound of your alarm clock?
Well it’s called “Ferimum”…it’s legit a bell ringing… quite incessant lol and definitely gets me up in the AM! But I do find myself snoozing it or completely turning it off from time to time.

Q: Morning person or night owl?
Hmm that’s a tough one. I’m definitely ready to go once I wash my face, and get dressed in the AM, but I do find myself somewhat fully awake at night when it comes to working on the blog or watching this new show that I’m taken to binge-watching hehe.

Q: Fave quote
I’m not too sure that I have one. I have taken to changing the quote on the wallpaper of my phone, from month to month or every few weeks. At present I would have to say that the quote I tend to come back to is; “Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be” -Unknown.

Q: Sandals or Sneakers?
HA! Sneakers all the way…have you not seen my growing converse collection!? Lol, they go with EVERYTHING!

Q: Your word for the year
Two words actually: Be strong.

Q: Last picture you took
A picture of Bailey lol (our family dog). He’s just so photogenic, all he does is sleep on my blankets or on my feet lol.

Q: What book you would recommend?
The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. It may not be for everyone, but I would suggest it, solely based on the way that she writes. I began watching the Starz television program, which isn’t for everyone, because of various intense scenes in the first few seasons (which I tend to fast-forward over…sorry not sorry), but I began reading the books and I find them quite difficult to put down. For Christmas, my lovely Secret Santa gave me the following two books in the series and I screamed like a fangirl! Diana’s writing causes me to envision myself right there in the late 18th century with the characters, riding on horseback right beside the main character, screaming at the characters for not thinking before they act, you know the usual. I always love to find an author who has a way of transporting their readers RIGHT into the book, that the book no longer feels like words on a page, but like a teleportation device of sorts. Perhaps I paint a very limited picture, but its a picture that I very much enjoy being a part of. Check out our previous blog post with more book recommendations!

Q: Countryside or beach?
Well the only beach that I have ever been to, is man made…so something tells me that it does NOT compare to those lovely clear blue Caribbean waters that I hear so much about. But the countryside always sounds so tranquil and inviting, so perhaps I will have to say a little bit of both.

Q: One fun fact about you
I’m a sucker for colouring markers, from Sharpies to Bic to Paper Mate. You give me a set of colours and I get lost in the world of colouring and hand lettering, see ya!

Q: Electronic or paper calendar?
A little bit of both. Every year I buy myself a paper calendar to jot down important dates for school, church, the blog, bdays and so forth, but I always colour code the important dates on my phone’s calendar, which is synched up to just about every electronic device that I own…so to call me organized MAY just be an understatement…and I’m not ashamed to say it lol.

Q: Fave flower
I don’t have one. I like to focus on the colour more than the type. I love the colours of the various flowers that bloom in the spring and summer, so perhaps my bouquet for my future wedding (fingers crossed) will be a hot mess of colour lol oh well!

Q: Savoury or sweet?
A little bit of both. I really enjoy sour candies but I also love me some desserts.

Q: Fave artists
That list may just be endless. Unspoken, for KING & COUNTRY, Tori Kelly, Hollyn. It’s a constantly growing list, but as of late, this is where my car tunes and On the Go playlist, begins.

Q: Fave season
Well for health reasons I love winter, it keeps my skin nice a smooth lol. I have had eczema ever since I could remember and my skin survives WONDERFULLY in the winter so I’ll take it. But I also love Fall, the leaves changing colours, the warm sweaters and nice scarves and cute boots, what more could this girl ask for?

Q: How would you describe your fashion style?
Well a certain sister of mine says that it’s a bit librarian chic, whatever that means. Sometimes I wonder if I dress a bit older than the average 22-year-old, but with a twist to it, which is what I find I am. I’m a 22 year (almost 23) year old with a twist. I have never been one to stay within a box, so perhaps that’s where my fashion sense stems from.

Deep Conversations

Q: Current role model
A: My mom and perhaps a few fictional TV show characters that will remain nameless! Yes, they were created to look good both on paper and on screen, but they can just be SO relatable sometimes.

Q: What causes you anxiety?
A: The fear of the unknown and things that I cannot control. I am someone who greatly enjoys having a plan and an idea of what will be. The past year and a half, I am constantly being told that there are some things that I just need to let go and go with the flow. I have been doing better and perhaps life has a funny way of reaffirming such action by throwing us curve balls that make us stop and think about the things that are the most important to us, and mask in that. I definitely need to try and remind myself of that.

Q: If I could grant you one wish, what would it be?
A: To let go of the people that I have disappointed me this past year and be ok with the fact that certain people are brought into our lives for specific reasons and when those reasons and goals have been met, its time to let them go. Everyone has a specific purpose in life and they help us in ways that others cannot, and when its time to move on, we have to be ready to do just that.

Q: What 3 things bring you joy?
A: – Being with family
– Listening to music
– Working with children

Q: When was the last time you meditated/prayed?
A: One-on-one time with my thoughts…I would have to say every Saturday at 6pm. I find that having an idea of a specific time slot when I want to do something, helps to motivate me to get it done. For sure I say a little 5minute or so prayer every night before bed, but sometimes taking more than 5 minutes is truly needed, just to put my mind at ease.

Q: When did your religion become central in your everyday life?
A: I would have to say when I entered my second year of CEGEP. I don’t know, something just hit me. Yes, I always attended church and went with the flow, but something about stopping and let someone know what was bothering you, even if the person may not feel present in a physical form, it brought me a sense of comfort. Some may chalk it up to me being crazy, because it may come off as I’m talking to myself (lol), but it worked for me, so who are you to judge😉.  I feel so at home and at peace when I’m at church, listening to Christian music and talking to the person that I have always been told looks out for me. I know that for most, it may be difficult to fathom why certain things happen to us, that is bad, disappointing and hurt, but I just always remind myself; “God never gives us more than we can handle”.

Q: What would you like your legacy to be?
That I lived, I loved and I did my best to be an example to others, while always leaving room to be taught a lesson or two because we are never too old to learn new things.

Q: Describe yourself in one word.
I don’t really know. I remember not too long ago, someone came to me and told me how an old acquaintance of mine described me as being easy, forgiving and they could say just about anything and I would get over it shortly, because I cannot go to be angry, even if I was not the one at fault, I would apologize. Well, after hearing this, I came to realize that even though I may be forgiving and I DO NOT like to go to bed angry, I refuse to be referred to as easy. I do not want to be seen as the person that will fold, no matter what is thrown at her. I want to be the one that is asserted in herself, that I will be ok, and get through the storms that rage before me. So how do I describe myself, simple; determined and stronger than you think.

Q: If you could meet anyone from the past, who would it be?
A: I’m not sure. So many people have left their mark on this earth, that it’s a difficult question for me. I wish that I could give you can answer, but it seems like this will be an answer for another time. Sorry…

Q: What do you see when you look in the mirror?
A: A woman who has to remind herself that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as long as your personality and the person you aspire to be, is true and honest and respectful, the physical “imperfections” are just specs of dust on the mirror.

Q: What is something you accomplished this year that you are most proud of?
A: The year is still young lol so for now, I’m proud that I’ve made it to 23 lol.

Q: What was the most challenging thing for you this year? Or in the last few years?
A: Letting go of what was comfortable, familiar and what I trusted. Sometimes situations show you who you can trust and what is most important to you and you have to take these events for what they are, and let go of what you had previously believed them to be because the time has come when the truth has been revealed.

Q: What 3 most important things you’ve learned this year, thus far?
A:  To be patient
– I am worth it
– I am capable

Q: What was something that was difficult for you at the beginning of the year, but is no longer difficult?
A: Believing that everything was going to be ok, and I was going to be able to move on and be better than I was before.

Q: What’s your most important goal for next year?
To reach my dream of getting into the Speech-Language and Pathology program at a prestigious University in my lovely city that I have always called home.

Q: How do you plan on achieving them?
Studying my heart out, pushing myself to do more and believing in what I am capable of because if you really want something, you will go out and get it.

Q: Of the books, you read this year, which was your favourite and why?
Linger by Maggie Stiefvater. I like me some young-adult fantasy books when the time arrises lol. It’s your typical werewolf meets girl love story. I love the simplicity of the writing and the breeziness of the storyline.

Q: What steps do you take to make time for yourself?
That’s a tough one. I’m not too sure that I really ever make time for myself lol. I’m usually pretty busy with school, work and making sure that everyone else around me is set that I kinda forget about myself. It’s a funny thing though. The last few months of 2018 were truly difficult for me, with some personal things that I had to deal with, but I was truly able to take some time for me, and see how much I have affected the people around me, that they stepped up for ME. I just had to tell them my truth, my trial and they were there at a drop of a hat and ready to be the ears that I needed more than I could have imagined.

Q: How do you challenge yourself?
I’m trying to speak for myself, and myself alone. I’m so worried about how others are going to react to the things that I have to say, that I tend to keep my truths to myself, but I’m finding that when I do this, I’m the only one suffering, and honesty is completely thrown out the door. So 2019 has me speaking up. Which I suppose is going to be my challenge. hehe

Q: What do you love about yourself?
I love that I am 22 years old and I feel put together and determined to reach my goals. A lot of my future may be an unknown, but I do know one thing for sure, it’s all going to work out because life has a funny way of surprising us with things that we never knew we both needed and wanted.

Well! There you have it a little bit more of R2! Let us know what you think!
