They tell you to give your heart to someone,
Someone who takes your breath away,
That someone who gives you butterflies and sparks,
But what if that someone instead takes away your spark?
They ask for your trust only to betray every fibre of said trust,
Give your heart, but people lie and cheat and steal,
What if what you’ve lost are actual parts of yourself?
Given away foolishly to an emotional bandit,
Give yourself time, you will heal and you will be ready to try again,
But how can you when you have given away your heart?
It roams freely, cradled in the palms of someone who no longer values it,
Still it remains, locked in a cycle of unconditional love,
While I am sat here with nothing else to give,
